Extermination of ants
Description.
Length of a body of working ants of 3-5 mm, males - 4-6 mm, females - 7-10 mm. One-color, black-brown. The body is covered with dense adjacent hairs. On a skapus and shins there are numerous remote hairs (close Lasius alienus does not have them). Sets on the head are shorter, and the breast is higher than at platythorax. Zhvala of workers with 8-9 teeth (7-9 at platythorax). PDCL (10-12) is less, than at platythorax (20-30). The PDCL index is degree of an opushennost of a platband, or average Pubescence Distance on CLypeus; number n of hairs of omission of l crossing or concerning the line of measurement by length. PDCL is also their ratio of l/n. The line passes from a back median point of a klipeus to the perednebokovy acting point.
Ecology.
Mezofil; nests in the soil in moderately damp station, at foozles, under stones, but are more often in bulk earth hillocks. The most usual and mass type of fauna. Everywhere, except dry habitats. Gerpetobiont.
Nests. Earth hummocks are characteristic. L.niger does the nests in the earth, under stones, in rotten wood, under bark of stubs.
The food mixed. It is fed on plant louses, and it is equal both living on trees, and living on grassy plants, on leaves, stalks and roots. Eats corpses of insects, but sometimes attacks also live. Oynonen (Oinonen, 1956), considering ants by an areal method in the Southern Finland, found inverse relation between the number of F. fusca and Lasius niger from what the author drew a conclusion that these types compete among themselves.
Basis of nests.
Females base nests independently, sometimes uniting for this purpose small groups.
Families of L.niger are provided several thousands of working ants (5 000 - 20 000) and one uterus.
Marriage years. The departure of winged occurs in different nests from June to August.
Value. L.niger is known as the wrecker of garden cultures as it actively parts a plant louse and other plants of insects sucking juice.
Development of a rasplod of working ants at various stages of development at a temperature of 25 degrees lasts on average 6-10 weeks:
- from egg to a larva - 15-20 days;
- from a larva to a cocoon - 10-15 days;
- about a cocoon to an imago - 15-30 days;
