Almonds grow on stony and shchebnisty slopes at the height from 800 to 1600 m above sea level (almonds Bukhara reach 2500 m), prefer soils rich with calcium. One grows small groups on 3 — 4 individuals remote from another on 5 — 7 meters.
It is very photophilous, very drought-resistant thanks to well developed root system and an economical transpiration.
Blossoms in March-April, places even in February, fruits ripen in June-July. Begins to fructify from 4 — 5 years and fructification continues 30 — 50 years, lives till 130 years. Breeds seeds, root offsprings and pnevy young growth. Transfers frosts to -25 °C, but from the beginning of vegetation suffers from spring frosts.
